The University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Center for Teaching Excellence is pleased to partner with Penn State University and the University of the Arts London in hosting the 8th annual Designs on e-Learning Conference. The theme identified for 2 013’s conference is “The Art of Disruptive Engagement”. Slated for September 11, 12 and 13, 2 013 the conference will focus on one of the major challenges of 21st century higher education: determining the optimal uses of emerging technologies for student engagement.
Threads for sessions include:
- exploring open environments
- grappling with the full spectrum of digital literacies in the classroom
- shifting roles of teachers
- accessing and assessing the value of emerging technologies for the classroom
- clarifying intellectual property issues
- shifting power dynamics in the academy
As digital technologies continue to evolve and transform the pedagogic landscape, we face exciting and innovative possibilities for the future of education. The Designs on e-Learning (DeL) conference leads, fosters and illuminates innovative practices, in teaching and learning with technology in art, design and communication.
The 2 013 DeL conference will explore the impact of these shifts on our teaching practices, and question how we can maximize their potential for improving student learning. This is an opportunity to collectively generate ideas, tackle problems, and share best practices. The format of the conference will vary, incorporating panel discussions, presentations and keynote speakers.
The Designs on e-Learning 2 013 Conference will be held on and around UNCW’s campus. The block of hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn Resort on Wrightsville Beach have been depleted for the night of September 10. We are suggesting that our guests contact the Blockade Runner, which is also located on the beach, a few blocks to the south. The phone number for the Blockade Runner is (910) 256-2251. You may also call directly and speak with Whitney Sprat at (910) 256 7115, especially if you wish to stay into the weekend at the special rate. In either case, be sure to mention UNCW and Designs on e-Learning conference.
Daily transportation will be provided from the Holiday Inn and the Blockade Runner to the conference venue and to the signature reception slated for the evening of Wednesday, September 11.
We will have a hospitality suite in the Holiday Inn’s “Soundwatch” room on the third floor. Stop in between 7 and 9 PM on Thursday evening for some local advice and hospitality.
